GET OUT: Men In Heels, Harbor Cruises, College Lacrosse

Can you say fun? Experience everything from classical music to lacrosse, rainforest adventures and cruising around the Inner Harbor. Don't miss out!

Why go: Parents and children of all ages will enjoy an adventure through the tropical rainforest with tour guide, Bixby. Magic, puppetry, audience participation, sing-a-longs and tons of live, exotic animals will help the audience learn about conservation and preservation of the rainforest.

2. OPENING DAY AT STEPPINGSTONE

Where/When: Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. at the Steppingstone Museum in Havre de Grace

 Why go: Visitors will enjoy museum exhibits, historical craft demonstrations, “little house” cooking and baseball games. The season opener, vintage baseball game will kick off at noon. Bring a picnic lunch and kids of all ages for a very unique American experience. For more information call 410-939-2299.

3. BEL AIR FARMERS' MARKET 

Where/When: Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Maryland Route 24 and Boulton Street in Bel Air

Why go: Freshly-grown and hand-picked fruits and vegetables from local farmers will be available for purchase. The event is fun for all ages and will be held every Tuesday, May 3 through Nov. 15.  For more information call 410-638-3339.

4. SEADOG BALTIMORE’S INNER HARBOR CRUISE

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday, leaving from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Visit the website for tour departure times.

Why go: This fun cruise around the Inner Harbor will tour the Maryland Science Center, Federal Hill, the American Visionary Art Museum and much more. The Seadog Tour will combine a slow-moving narrated tour with bursts of exhilaration for fun boat ride with a humorous crew.

Pricing: Weekdays, from $17.54 for adults and $10.52 for children. Weekends, from $21.93 for adults and $13.16 for children.

 

5. BRAHM’S SECOND SYMPHONY

Where/When: Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall

Why Go: Feeling tense? Relax and listen to a classical music presentation from German conductor Cornelius Meister, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.  He will make his debut leading the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in two timeless favorites.  

Pricing: Tickets range from $28—$61.

 

6. COLLEGE LACROSSE: JOHNS HOPKINS VS. LOYOLA

Where/When: Saturday, 2 p.m. at Homewood Field 

Why go: Watch these two teams battle it out on the field. It is John Hopkins' homecoming game and fans of all ages are invited to attend.

Pricing: $6 to $10

 

7. SWEETLIFE FESTIVAL 2011

Where/When: Sunday, noon at Merriweather Post Pavillion

Why go: This eclectic carbon neutral festival will feature many different styles of music including The Strokes, Girl Talk, Lupe Fiasco, Crystal Castles, Cold War Kids, Ra Ra Riot, Theophilus London, Walk The Moon, U.S. Royalty and Modern Man. Food from local farmers will be available to purchase. The event is sponsored by Sweetgreen, a Washington D.C. based restaurant group that leads the national charge in sourcing delicious local and organic ingredients, with an underlying commitment to the environment, and their community.

Pricing: $100 for VIP, $55 for General Admission

 

8. WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES

Where/When: Saturday, 9:30 a.m. beginning at the

Why Go: Men, get your heels on!—for a good cause of course. Join the men in our community as they take a stand against sexual violence. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of the “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” march and will help raise money to support local rape crisis services and domestic violence shelters.
