Jones Touchdown Means Free Furniture in Maryland

One local furniture chain will be reimbursing more than a half-million in weekend sales after Ravens speedster Jacoby Jones returned the third-quarter kickoff for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVII Sunday.

Some lucky Baltimore-area residents enjoyed their new couches a whole lot more in the second half of Sunday's Super Bowl.

Because Jacoby Jones returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter for a touchdown, Gardiner's Furniture will fulfill a promise to refund all purchases made in their stores over the weekend.

Sports blog Deadspin has a video of the 108-yard return, the longest play in NFL postseason history.

On its Facebook page Sunday night, Gardiner's Furniture posted:

That was amazing! Furniture is FREE! If you made a purchase this weekend, it's your lucky day. Go Ravens!

John J. Campion Jr. wrote: "Thank you Jacoby Jones for our new table set!!!!"

Kalea Kaiser posted: "Yeah baby! So glad we picked this weekend to buy!"

According to The Sun, that amounts to more than $600,000 in home furnishings.

The chain has five locations in the Baltimore metro region, according to its website: Towson, Pasadena, Bel Air, Westminster, and Catonsville.

Gardiners spokeswoman Kasee Lehrl told The Sun: "It's great for the Ravens, great for our customers and great for Gardiners."

The store took a chance on the rarity of a touchdown on a kickoff return, offering the deal if the Ravens scored on their return to start the game or the second half, but didn't take a risk on financing its gamble. According to The Sun, Lehrl said the store took out an insurance policy for the promotion.

Couldn't have happened to a better company... too bad they didn't give away 1.6M. I just hope the customers don't have any issues because Gardiners won't stand behind it.

Amen to THAT! Our couch cushions are horribly compressed, two years in. Nothing is built to last any more...

I saw the ad on TV and could not believe that Jones ran it back. I'll bet Gardiners was losing their minds. But, I'll give it to them, they've handled it very gracefully.

Kicking myself in the behind... because I saw the Gardiner's advertisement on Friday or Saturday, and just didn't have the time to get there to make my intended purchase. Oh well... at least the Raven's won!

Does everyone understand that when you buy insurance the underwriter pays out and not Gardiner's?Gardiner's is very happy that the tounchdown was scored and makes more money, because many people use the rebate to buy more furniture.

Glad to hear you have insurance. Don't know what that has to do with the Ravens but if they inspired you to go out and get insurance so be it.

Glad you were saved standing behind your gardner. Amen.
