Sonic on Target To Open in April

Owner of the soon-to-come Bel Air Sonic says he is pushing to have the business open by April.

The Bel Air Sonic is on target to open early next year after a series of setbacks.

Sonic was , but several issues have delayed construction and pushed the opening into 2012.

Owner Rick Joshi told Patch in November that constrution had been delayed because . On Wednesday, Joshi said the issue of utility lines had been resolved.

“The status is that we are ready to go to start building, but we’re probably going to, just to play it safe, start building in February,” Joshi said Wednesday.

He said while the weather has been mild so far this season, he doesn't want to run into issues in the event of a snowstorm.

“We're waiting on the weather,” Joshi said.

He explained construction at the Sonic site, located on Maryland Route 924 next to , should take between 60 and 80 days.

“We are pushing to be done, open doors, [by] April," Joshi said.

Aside from the building, everything else is ready for opening including employee training, according to Joshi.

“We’re ready," Joshi said. "I’m tired of waiting.” 

He plans to set a sign on the lot to reassure prospective customers that the business is still on its way.

“We’re going to get a sign out there just so everyone knows this is not a joke,” Joshi said.
