Visions for Vacancies: Gus's Deli Mart

What would you like to see in this commercial vacancy in Bel Air?

Gus's Deli Mart closed suddenly in June and the Bel Air property has remained vacant ever since.

The building, located at 306 South Main Street, has a prime location in town just a short distance from Bel Air High School, county office buildings and Main Street shops.

The 38,942 square foot building is currently owned by Bel Air Main Limited
Partnership LLLP, according to online property records. It was first built in 1961.

The location most recently served the area as a convience store and was a Wawa before Gus's took over.

The building is currently for lease, according to a sign posted in the store's front window.

What business do you think would be a good fit for this commercial property? Tell us in the comments.

Someplace fun for families, like Dave & Busters
RAYLENTLESS January 18, 2013 at 06:44 PM
Just make the whole strip looneys.
Monica January 18, 2013 at 07:12 PM
I agree with Raylentless. Looney's appeals to all ages and families can go there with kids and seniors can go and feel comfortable, then the funseekers can go for the singles scene.

A bar. But a bar that plays good music outside of the top 40 (local submitted playlists would be awesome, you could even pair up with CODA for release events), serves a decent selection of good beers and micro brews. It would be nice if it had a couple pool tables. It shouldn't have a dance floor but should have plenty of sitting areas. Just a more relaxed bar environment akin to Sean Bolans just with more sitting area.

I think Looney's should expand since the parking lot is filled with their patrons anyway. Also Expanding could add room for pool tables and other entertainment.

A cigar lounge.

I know for a fact that the town already went out of their way to let Looney's know that they would never approve any expansion. Who needs jobs and taxes..
Sandy January 18, 2013 at 09:14 PM
irishbill, They already rec'd 1 expansion from the Town, just not getting a 2nd expansion
irishbill January 18, 2013 at 09:52 PM
After a 2 year fight. My point was, they went out of their way to inform Looney's when looney's wasn't even planning it..

How about Bel Air Pizzeria. they have one in Abingdon and Riverside just need one in Bel Air now.
justsomeguycommenting January 19, 2013 at 12:47 AM
Agreed. It would be really nice if they had an outdoor dining section like MaGerks.

How about a public bathroom for all of the drunks who are peeing on the sidewalk or behind peoples' houses?
Darrin Buono January 19, 2013 at 01:29 PM
How about Dunkin Donut ?
Tyler January 19, 2013 at 03:11 PM
Dunkin donuts!

Good one, Penelope. Policing at it's finest; letting the drunkards break the laws over and over again. I'm sure after they relieve themselves they get into their cars.
MSwain January 19, 2013 at 09:59 PM
Gun shop.
Kimberly Schlee Stephens January 19, 2013 at 10:47 PM
In my opinion, either expansion of Looney's since their patrons consume all parking, or a Dunkin Donuts. The 2 closest DDs are Churchville or near DuClaw.
Robin January 19, 2013 at 11:59 PM
Dunkin Donuts!
Mary Lou Vaskus January 20, 2013 at 12:49 AM
Olive Garden!

Susan, This suggestion is a winner. A Dave & Busters would be a great fit for Harford County. Joan W.

There is a great Deli Mart over in Edgewood called Gus's I think it'd be a perfect fit in Bel Air
