543 Reopened After 'Serious' Accident, Multiple Flyouts
The accident occurred near the intersection of Walters Mill Road.
UPDATE (5:25 p.m.)—The road has been reopened. It was closed for about an hour, according to a duty officer for the Maryland State Police.

Maryland Route 543 in Hickory is closed Monday at the intersection of Walters Mill Road for a multi-vehicle accident that required two medevac transports, a county emergency services spokesman said.

Two helicopters were called to fly out three patients—two adults and one child—according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
The adults have been flown to Maryland Shock Trauma and the child to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Emergency services personnel needed 30 minutes to rescue the patients for transport from the accident.
At least two other patients have been transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview by ambulance. Gardiner said the injuries are "serious" and the road is "impassable."
The incident occurred around 3 p.m., according to a duty officer for the Maryland State Police. Traffic is being turned around as it approaches the intersection, the duty officer said.
