Aberdeen Man Killed in Weekend Crash On Route 543

Police say road conditions contributed to the crash.

A crash near Bel Air claimed the life of an Aberdeen man Saturday, and police believe a slick roadway contributed to the accident.

Around 9:20 p.m. Saturday, William Weaver was driving a 2003 Chevy Cavalier southbound on Fountain Green Road, or Maryland Route 543, near Calvary Road, or Maryland Route 136, according to Maryland State Police with the Bel Air Barrack.

While negotiating a downward, left curve Weaver lost control of the car and drove off the road, then overcorrected and skid over the double yellow line, according to state police.

A northbound 2010 Volkswagen was unable to avoid the Chevy Cavalier and crashed into the passenger side of the car, the barrack duty officer said.

Weaver, 40, of Aberdeen was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air where he later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, state police said.

Two 19-year-old passengers in the Volkswagen were also taken to Upper Chesapeake for treatment of various injuries.

Investigators believe the road, which was wet at the time of the crash, led Weaver to lose control of his car.
