Comments: Quiet Hero at Fire, Laughs at Cicadas

Baltimore-area Patch readers speak their minds.

This week, Patch readers took to the comment streams to chime in on local politics, neighborhood crime, a hero in an early-morning fire and gun control.

Here's some of what your neighbors are saying:

Towson:
"154 rounds in under 5 minutes and you say he wasn't proficient??? That's ridiculous." — Steve on The New Game In Town

Essex:
"We see more of this type of behavior during hard economic times. Often times people see no other option. This may not be the case in this particular situation but is is sad nonetheless." — Buzz Beeler on Police: Essex Barricade Situation Over; Man in Custody

Dundalk:
"Laughed out loud throughout the entire article...was trying to read it to someone and couldn't continue after, 'Enough!' Loved it." — NottinghamFamily on

Havre de Grace:
"Held up again? Perhaps, getting rid of the illegal substances they are selling to minors might help." — Joe on Route 40 Gas Station Held Up At Gunpoint

Bel Air:
"It is amazing to me that no one has mentioned the young man who got up ran up the hill and helped the residents to safety before police or firemen arrived on the scene. He helped my 86 year old mother and her dog to safety. Went back in the fire and carried out an elderly resident on his shoulders. He is a Harford County hero. Without his help very possibily the story would have a different ending. Our family will be eternally grateful to Jeffrey Bull." — June Pool on $1.5 Million in Damage after Bel Air Condo Fire

Bel Air:
"I was in the middle building in 2009 that burned down. I woke up last night to the smell of smoke. It was very upsetting to re-live this again. I empathize with the people in that building last night. They have a long, exhausting journey ahead of them. My prayers are with them." — W R on $1.5 Million in Damage after Bel Air Condo Fire

Towson:
"If and when it is going to happen, it is going to happen. We should continue the common sense practices that we've been doing for years. This alarmist nonsense needs to stop. Putting up more cameras and acting like the doors are locked (which many, many are not) isn't going to stop the next crazy person from doing something stupid. But of course, it sounds good. And looks good...sure do love publicity. I also find it funny that teachers are supposed to 'intervene' early by recognizing things, yet it is somehow ok to keep piling kids up into classes of 35-40 students per. Make it real easy to get to know your kids. Put your money where your mouth is Duncan, Dance, etc. You want secure buildings, get rid of the trailers, have kids inside a secure building and not going in and out all day (which causes many to leave property and return...just waiting for what happened at Glen Burnie to happen elsewhere). Do you really think people don't see through this BS?" — Matthew on Educations Secretary Stresses Early Intervention to Curb Gun Violence
