GET OUT: Asthma Awareness, 42nd Street, Family Fishing

Get out in the great spring weather and spend time with your family and friends! Here are eight events to help you enjoy your weekend.

From fishing to butterfly exploring there are plenty of chances to enjoy the outdoors this weekend. Take part in fun events that will educate and entertain you.

Where/When: Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center

Why Go: This family-friendly event will feature asthma screenings, device training, crafts for kids, refreshments and more! Come out and support a good cause while learning about asthma. For more information contact the Mid-Atlantic Asthma Foundation at 1-888-947-5552.

Where/When: Thursday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Ripken Stadium Parking Lot, Long Drive in Aberdeen

Why Go: This military-themed flea market will feature vehicles, tents, insignia, collectibles, weaponry, electronics, uniforms, books and much more. Large vehicles will be on display, there will be tours of the Aberdeen Military Museum and a Friday night auction. Proceeds benefit the US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground Military Museum, USO. 3. DORA THE EXPLORER: BUTTERFLIES

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Eden Mill Nature Center

Why Go: Parents and children will go on a guided adventure and learn through games, clues and activities—just like Dora. Children will discover the secrets of butterflies and even learn some Spanish. Ages 3 to 7 are invited and pre-registration is required. Call 410-836-3050 or visit the website for more information.

4. YOU GRAB A STICK, I'LL GRAB A POLE

Where/When: Sunday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Anita Leight Estuary Center

Why Go: Bring your children and head down to the fishin’ hole. There will be fishing and learning about the fish found in Otter Point Creek. This will be a catch and release event. Call 410-612-1688 for more information or visit the website.

Pricing: $2 for adults, children permitted free

 

5. OPEN DOORS CAREER CENTER WINE AND BEER TASTING

Where/When: Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Rockfield Manor

Why Go: Enjoy a night out sponsored by the Open Doors Career Center, Inc. There will be wine and beer tasting and heavy hors d’oeuvres available. All proceeds benefit the center and their efforts to open the door to success for members of our community. For more information call 410-638-0187.

6. 42nd STREET

Where/When: Thursday through Sunday, 6 p.m. at Toby’s Dinner Theater

Why Go: A classic play about hard work, talent and love. "42nd Street" is a Broadway play that takes the audience on a journey with an aspiring chorus girl, Peggy. You will love watching the underdog succeed in this uplifting performance—all while enjoying a great meal. Visit Ticketmaster for tickets.

7. LUNCHTIME CONCERT

Where/When: Friday, noon to 1 p.m. at Office Street near the courthouse

Why Go: There will be a lunchtime concert with food vendors available. Tables and chairs will be provided. Call 443-823-1797 for more information.

8. FIRST ANNUAL FAMILY ARTS AND FUN FESTIVAL

Where/When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bel Air Town Center

Why Go: Enjoy free arts and crafts, working artists, face painting, local live music, wonderful food and tons of fun! There will be a stage, picnic tables, roving entertainment and more. The entire event benefits Harford Habitat for Humanity, which will also be at the event. All ages are invited. For more information call 410-893-1700 or go to the website.
