Harford Cooling Centers Open Due To Extreme Heat

The heat index is expected to reach triple digits Thursday in Harford County and across Maryland.

Harford County is doing a little something extra to help keep residents cool.

and high humidity plaguing the area, Harford County announced Thursday it will open cooling centers throughout the county.

A heat advisory and air quality advisory went into effect Wednesday and remain in effect through Thursday, with temperatures expected to approach the triple digits.

While temperatures are expected to be in the high 90s, it may feel like it's as hot as 105 degrees outside, according to a release from the county.

“We encourage the citizens of Harford County, particularly the elderly, young children and those with respiratory health issues to seek shelter from today’s heat. Our activity centers are open to the public for those who need some relief from today’s expected high temperatures,” County Executive said in the release.

The following locations will be open to the public for relief from the heat from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday:
