UPDATE: Helicopter, Canines Search For Missing Fallston Teen

A helicopter and police dogs participated in the search for the teen because he threatened to harm himself, police say.

UPDATE (10:22 a.m. Wednesday)— A missing teen prompted emergency response in the Bel Air/Creswell area Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was later found safe and in good health.

The was called after a 17-year-old Fallston boy was reported as a runaway from the , located on MD Route 543, according to Monica Worrell, public information officer with the sheriff's office.

The center "provides special education services to children in grades 6 through 12, whom have demonstrated difficulty with school adjustment and performance in mainstream settings," according to its website.

Worrell said the young man threatened to harm himself, prompting police to call in canine units as well as a police helicopter to aid in the search, Worrell said.

“We spotted this young man and he ran away from us so we started pursuing," Worrell said. “The community is not at risk.”

The teen was found safe and sound, according to Susan Barnes, Director of Education for the Arrow Center for Education.

The search was called off shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"I also wanted to share that we very much appreciate the support of the emergency response in the situation today," Barnes wrote in an email to Patch.
