Hometown Heroes: Major Robert G. Cassilly

Banners illustrating hometown heroes, like Robert G. Cassilly, have lined Main Street in Bel Air since Veterans Day and will likely stay up through the middle of January.

Robert G. Cassilly, former mayor of Bel Air and county councilman, was recognized in the community long before his face hung on Main Street.

Cassilly, a Bel Air native, is among those honored with a in recognition of military service.

Major Robert G. Cassilly was serving on the Harford County Council when he was mobilized for war in 2006, according to an article in the Baltimore Sun. He was an Army Reserve Civil Affairs Officer and served in the Global War on Terror from 2006 through 2007, according to his banner.
