Moores Mill Road Segment Closes To Traffic

A portion of Moores Mill Road in Bel Air closed to traffic last week for a 10-month construction project.

The closure primarily impacts drivers using Moores Mill Road to travel between Maryland Route 924 and Maryland Route 22 and those living in the Majors Choice community. During construction there will be no access to Moores Mill from Major's Choice Drive.

The $2.1 million project includes widening and straightening the roadway and building sidewalks on both sides of the road, according to Tom Pistel with the county public works department.

The contruction is part of a multi-phase project with phase II addressing Moores Mill Road between Business Route 1 and Maryland Route 924, according to a story on Explore Harford.

Members of the community have expressed both a need and dread for the project.

"This area is always a MESS when it rains," wrote Patch user Erinn in a comment on a previous story about the road closure. "I used to live in apartments down there and it always flooded. Lets hope their time frame of 10 months is shortened and gets the job done this time!"

Business Route 1 was closed at Moores Mill due to high water during last week's storms.

"[T]his is going to make everything from going to work to grocery shopping a little more time-consuming," Patch user Mary Colleen Sheridan Allan, a Major's Choice resident, wrote.

In the mean time, Harford County government has started a Facebook page for the project to provide progress updates and answer questions.
