Severe Thunderstorms Tear Through Harford County

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for all of Harford County Friday night.

Severe thunderstorms were moving through the area Friday evening, with a thunderstorm watch in effect through 9 p.m.

The storms were two miles east of Havre de Grace around 6:55 p.m. and moving toward the city with wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour and small hail, according to , spokesman for as well as a statement issued by the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the county shortly before 6:30 p.m. The warning remained in effect until 7:15 p.m.

The storms were expected to cause damaging winds of up to 60 miles per hour, according to the warning. The warning urges residents to remain inside and away from windows until the storm is passed.
