Sheriff's Deputy To Shock Trauma After I-95 Crash

Interstate-95 southbound closed for nearly two hours after the Saturday night accident.

A deputy was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma by Medevac on Saturday after an accident on Interstate-95 at about 6:30 p.m.

Sgt. Thomas Gamble was driving his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria southbound on the highway when he struck a 2001 Dodge Stratus on the Maryland Route 24 ramp, according to police.

The car was left on the ramp by Courtney Queen, 27, of Owings Mills, after “she was cut off [while driving in a middle lane] by an unknown vehicle causing her to lose control of her car, which spun out and stalled in the on/off lane under the Route 24 overpass,” the release stated.

Queen walked to the side of the highway after failing to restart her car and move it off the highway, the release stated.

Gamble, a 12-year deputy, was “alert and in good condition” while hospitalized, according to a release from spokeswoman Monica Worrell.

He was released from Shock Trauma at about 10:35 p.m.

No information on whether any drivers involved in the accident had been charged or cited was available Saturday night.

Traffic was diverted for nearly two hours, Worrell said.

“[I-95] was shut down. [Police] were pushing people off at Exit 80 [and] they were pushing people off at Exit 77B,” Worrell told Patch via telephone. “But you could not get through due to accident reconstruction.”

Two lanes of I-95 were reopened at about 8:15 p.m. with all four lanes reopened later.

This is the second accident involving a sheriff’s deputy in about a month after an alleged drunk driver struck a police cruiser in Joppa in June.
