Shooting Victim is Exxon Employee; Store Reopened

The suspect in the Bel Air Exxon shooting is still at large.

The man was an employee of the business, a coworker said Sunday afternoon.

The employee, who declined to be identified, said the victim was still in Maryland Shock Trauma. The worker did not know whether any cash or goods were stolen from the West MacPhail Road convenience store and gas station during the incident.

The 24-hour business was closed at about 11:15 p.m. when the shooting occurred. It reopened at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, the employee said.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who was described as wearing all-black clothing and carrying a handgun. Bel Air Chief of Police Leo Matrangola said he is unsure of the race of the suspect. A spokeswoman for the said the man is a "light-skinned black" male between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall of "average build."

Matrangola believes the suspect is the same man who attempted an armed robbery at the Bel Air South Parkway High's at about 10:15 p.m Saturday. That convenience store is a little more than two miles from the Exxon. (See map graphic.)

Anyone with information on the Exxon incident should contact the Bel Air Police Department at 410-638-4500. Anyone with information on the High's incident should contact the Harford County Sheriff's Office at 410-838-6600.
