Suspected Bel Air Arsons Cause $7,550 in Damage

A Jeep Wrangler was among the items burned in what the state fire marshal believes were criminal acts.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating three fires that occurred within one hour early Saturday and caused damage totaling $7,550.

A Dumpster in the 700 block of Henderson Road in Bel Air was set on fire at about 3:30 a.m., causing about $50 in structure damage.

About 30 minutes later, a 2002 Jeep Wrangler worth about $7,000 was set on fire in the woods between Cedar Lane and Cedarday Drive, also in Bel Air.

At 4:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Ady Road in Hickory, a 20-by-20-foot platform stage in Hickory Park was set on fire, causing about $500 in damage. The property is owned by the county parks and recreation department.

Each incident was a one-alarm fire; all three required a total of 16 firefighters. The Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company responded to the second, and the the first and third.
