Bel Air Students' Artwork on Display in State Capital

Three Harford County students were recognized for their visionary art.

Comptroller Peter Franchot visited Bel Air this week to present three students with Maryland Masters Awards.

The awards program recognizes students enrolled in the state's public schools who display extraordinary artistic skills that reflect the vision of Maryland’s future, according to a statement from the comptroller's office.

  • Jasanveer Aulakh, a fourth grader at Emmorton Elementary School, created a mixed-media composition using collage techniques in the style of Charley Harper, who designed art for the National Park Service.
  • Kenzie Targarona, a senior at C. Milton Wright High School, drew an expressive self-portrait in white charcoal.
  • Alexus Walz, who was unable to attend the award presentation, produced a mixed-media composition of a tree while she was an eighth grader at Aberdeen Middle School.

The students’ art will be on exhibit for two months at the Comptroller’s Office in Annapolis.
