Deputy Honored for Saving Drowning Bel Air 2-Year-Old

A Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy received a plaque Friday from the Moose Lodge.

A Harford County officer who saved a Bel Air girl's life was among the fire, police and military personnel honored by the Bel Air Moose Lodge 1952 on Friday at its annual awards dinner.

Sheriff's Deputy Dfc. James Amrein was recognized for saving the life of a 2-year-old who almost drowned in Bel Air last summer, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The child fell into a swimming pool on June 1, 2013, and when Amrein arrived, she had been taken out of the pool and had a pulse but was not breathing, the sheriff's office said.

Amrein removed an obstruction from her mouth, tapped on her back to dislodge any other water or obstructions, then she began gasping for air, the report stated.

Paramedics took the child to a local hospital, where she fully recovered, according to the sheriff's office.

The Moose Lodge presented Amrein with a plaque and several commendations from local elected officials, according to the sheriff's office.
