Tianna Alves, Bel Air's Person of the Year for 2013

Alves is the owner of Barely Used Consignments on Main Street.

If there's a new vibe in downtown Bel Air, Tianna Alves may have something to do with it.

She recently expanded her shop, Barely Used Consignments on Main Street, bringing "a completely new energy to the downtown area," according to the person who nominated her for Bel Air's Person of the Year.

A shift in energy was part of Alves' reason for moving the store from 12 Main Street to its larger location at 8 Main Street.

"I wanted to highlight the art community, and have a place for them,” Alves said in an October interview with Patch about the store's expansion. "I really wanted it to be an interactive space with a lot of community gatherers and involvement."

The idea has taken off. Barely Used Consignments hosts many creative workshops and events, and recently held its first poetry and monologue slam.
