20,000 LEDs Light Up Churchville Road in Holiday Display

The light show is at St. Matthew Lutheran Church off Route 22.

Bel Air has a dazzling light show in store this year that will switch on Saturday night.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church is offering a free drive-through display made up of 20,000 festive Christmas lights.

Jim Kurtz, the Amyclae resident made famous by his "Call Me Maybe" holiday light show in 2012, said he has been working with Associate Pastor Blaise Sedney on the church's display since April.

The drive-through display includes more than 20,000 lights, consumes 2400 watts and uses 20 amps. All lights are LEDs, connected by one mile of extension cords, according to organizers.

Parishioners, community members and local businesses helped install the lights, a process that began in October.

The lights are synchronized to holiday music that people can listen to through their vehicles as they drive, including selections from The Greatest Story Ever Told.

To get to the display, use the main entrance for St. Matthew Lutheran Church—on Churchville Road at Brierhill Drive, across from Walgreens. The light show is free. Visitors may bring donations for the food pantry.

The display will run from 6–11 p.m. on its opening day: Saturday, Nov. 30. It will continue through late December from 6–10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 6–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. See the light show schedule.
