Last Call for Floats in Bel Air's Fourth of July Parade

Marching units, antique cars, novelty acts are also welcome in the '200 Star-Spangled Years' celebration, organizers say.

With less than a month left until the Fourth of July, the Bel Air Independence Day Committee issued its last call for floats, marching units, antique cars and comic/novelty acts to participate in the town's annual patriotic parade.

"Parading on July 4th is one of the best ways to show community spirit, thank our founding fathers for their bravery and sacrifice and uphold the best in patriotism, love for our country and respect for each other,” Parade Chair Michael Blum said. Blum has chaired Bel Air's Fourth of July parade since 1992. “We are still looking for applicants and interested parade people."

The deadline to submit an application for this year's parade is Friday, June 13.

"200 Star-Spangled Years" is the theme for 2014, which marks the anniversary of the bombardment of Fort McHenry and the Battle of North Point during the War of 1812 as well as the composition of the national anthem, according to a statement from the parade committee. Those entered in the parade may incorporate decorations and displays to recognize the occasion.
