Town of Bel Air Proclaims April as Autism Awareness Month
The town has 'lit it up blue.'
Have you noticed more blue around Bel Air lately?
The Town Hall on Hickory Avenue has changed its hue for April to raise awareness about autism. In fact, the town's board of commissioners proclaimed April "Autism Awareness Month" at its meeting this week, where the Autism Society of Harford County was recognized.
The "Light It Up Blue" campaign is one that involves illuminating buildings and businesses around the globe blue to raise awareness about autism during April, which is World Autism Awareness Month.
Several organizations in and around Bel Air are participating in Autism Awareness Month.
- Flavor Cupcakery has topped its cupcakes with puzzle pieces and is donating 10 percent of sales to the cause April 8 to 11 when people mention "autism .
- There's an online Stella and Dot fundraiser until April 23, and half of sales go to Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding in Churchville. Chesapeake Riding volunteer Laurie Syphard set it up.
- Aberdeen Proving Ground has started its own "Light It Up Blue" campaign.
