The purpose of social media

Is Facebook a good thing?

I will admit that I am a Facebook user, mind you that I use it to put out useless information, find out what old friends look like (and if I really want to remain friends with them), and to post things that I think might get a rise out of people. (Politics is always a home-run.)

What I can't understand is why people feel the need to post everything about their personal life and all the things that are going wrong in their lives. Don't get me wrong I get a lot of amusement reading about peoples problems but is all self-respect been cast out the window since Al Gore invented the internet! Ha Ha!

My favorite are the people that feel the need to tell everyone that they just worked out or ran a marathon, every freaking day. No one really cares, we are just going to look at whatever pictures you have posted to see if all the working out has made a difference. If it has we might send a encouraging message, if not well who knows what will be done. People can be very cruel.

The other problem I have with Facebook is one feels guilty if they do not accept a friend request from someone they might have passed in the hall during elementary school. If I wasn't a good enough friend for you to call me on the phone why would feel the need to request my friendship now? Just my thoughts for the day!
