Hometown Heroes: Col. James V. Wasson

Banners illustrating hometown heroes like Col. James V. Wasson have lined Main Street in Bel Air since Veterans Day and will likely stay up through the middle of January.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and this year Bel Air is celebrating the many faces of military heroism found in our own backyards.

Col. James V. Wasson of Bel Air served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He is featured in one of 29 that have been on display on poles along Main Street since Veterans Day. Each banner honors a man or woman from Harford County who has served in the military.

Since Veterans Day, banners highlighting "hometown heroes" have been on display on poles along Main Street.

The 2011 Hometown Hero Banner Program was started by the in observance of the 100th anniversary of . Each banner honors a man or woman from Harford County who has served in the military.
