Hometown Heroes: Col. Matthew St. Clair

Banners illustrating hometown heroes like Matthew G. St. Clair have lined Main Street in Bel Air since Veterans Day and will likely stay up through the middle of January.

To those who share a name with one Jarrettsville man, his service to his country makes him a hero.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Albert St. Clair sponsored a hometown hero banner in honor of Col. Matthew G. St. Clair.

He has served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Persian Gulf War and the global war on terror, according to the banner that hangs along Main Street.

Since Veterans Day, banners highlighting "hometown heroes" have been on display on poles along Main Street.

The 2011 Hometown Hero Banner Program was started by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance in observance of the 100th anniversary of . Each banner honors a man or woman from Harford County who has served in the military.
