New Sculpture Adorns Library Memorial Garden

A sculpture of a boy reading was installed outside the Bel Air Library in November.

A boy and his dog sit prominently in front of the Bel Air Branch of the reading a book.

This rosy image was made permanent on Nov. 4 with the installation of the sculpture entitled, "Maxey and Me," according to Daria Parry, associate director of Harford County Public Library.

The sculpture, designed by artist Rudolph Rose, was selected because of the library system's focus on developing child literacy, according to Parry.

"This statue of a boy reading with his dog is a visual representation of the love of reading and learning that we want to foster and encourage," Parry said.

The statue stands in the Roenna Fahrney Memorial Garden facing the parking lot and to the left of the library's main entrance.

The statue was bought with $6,496 earmarked from the Roenna Fahrney Memorial Fund for the purchase of a sculpture, according to Parry.

While the sculpture was installed early last month, the library is planning an official unveiling ceremony some time in the future.
