Don't live in Stressville!

Happy Summer, Harford County!  And Welcome to my new blog about the benefits of massage.  We all lead busy, busy lives.  Work, children’s activities, social engagements, community commitments – these all can lead to a stressful existence.  And we don’t want to live in Stressville!

Stress isn’t always bad.  Sometimes it’s just focusing on what needs to be done – planning that wedding, sending out birth announcements, getting to a birthday party on time.  All these activities, while for happy occasions, can put undue stress on our bodies and minds.  So what can we do to relieve that stress?

You have a number of options – exercise (running, yoga, zumba, etc.), blowing off steam (insert your favorite form here, in moderation, of course), and massage (my favorite).

I will go into detail about these benefits in future blogs, but in general, massage can:

Relieve stress

Manage anxiety and depression

Ease pain

Improve circulation

Lower blood pressure

Strengthen immunity

Improve sleep

Help headaches

Raise alertness

Improve flexibility

Help with recovery after injury

As you go through your day, make a mental note of what is stressful to you.  How do your muscles respond?  Are your shoulders up around your ears?  Is your mouse hand tense and tight?  Is your face practically glued to your computer screen while the rest of your body is sitting way back there in your chair?  Once you identify exactly when and where you are tightening up, you can start to relax.

Until next time,
