Feb. 19, 1973—Feb. 15, 2014

Days before his 41st birthday, Bel Air High School teacher and lacrosse coach "Scoop" John Kelly passed away.

Kelly, who died Saturday, had been in a serious motor vehicle collision earlier in the week and was at home when he passed away, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported it was not clear whether the two were related.

As the coach of the Bel Air Bobcats varsity lacrosse team, Kelly helped the boys achieve a 12-4 record in 2013 and play in the class 4A/3A south region title game, according to LaxPower.

Kelly was a Fallston High School and Mary Washington College graduate who taught social studies at Bel Air High School, where he took over the varsity lacrosse program in 2005, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W. Macphail Road, in Bel Air.

The mass of Christian burial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 2407 Laurel Brook Road, in Fallston. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations go to the Bel Air High School Men's Lacrosse Program, 100 Heighe Street, Bel Air, MD 21014.
