Days before his 41st birthday, Bel Air High School teacher and lacrosse coach "Scoop" John Kelly passed away.

Kelly, who died Saturday, had been in a serious motor vehicle collision earlier in the week and was at home when he passed away, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported it was not clear whether the two were related.

Kelly was a Fallston High School and Mary Washington College graduate who taught social studies at Bel Air High School, where he took over the varsity lacrosse program in 2005, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W. Macphail Road, in Bel Air.
