Funeral for a 'Hero of Volunteers,' Captain David Barr
Captain David R. Barr died Nov. 7, 2013.
When Captain David Barr was laid to rest recently, he was remembered for his service and given full departmental honors in Cecil County. Here are some reflections and images from the Nov. 16 proceedings.
Barr was the "hero of volunteers," the president of Perryville's fire company told the Rising Sun Herald, which reported he was also described as an "irreplaceable person."
One woman told the Cecil Whig: "He was always out there doing for everybody else."
Barr was struck by a vehicle Oct. 25 while directing traffic around a crash in Perryville. He died Nov. 7 from his injuries.
