Longtime Bel Air Resident Mary Streett Passes Away

Maryterese Streett died on Saturday, Aug. 25.

For many longtime residents of Bel Air, the face of Mary Streett was a familiar one.

The longtime Bel Air resident passed away Saturday at the age of 81—just a week and a half shy of her 82nd birthday.

Maryterese Streett moved to Harford County from Wilkes Barre, PA, in 1952 to teach at , according to an email from Harford County Councilman Jim "Cap'n Jim" McMahan.

She married Dr. Eugene Streett and the couple purchased on Main Street in 1964, according to a story on ExploreHarford.com.

The drug store celebrated 120 years this year.

"I am personally saddened to pass along the news that Maryterese R. Streett passed on Saturday evening at the Hooper Hospice," McMahan wrote.

He described the late Streett as a wife and mother who successfully raised four boys—Chris, Tim, Eugene and Jonathan. She also served as a teacher, business woman and community volunteer.

Her service extended to local government committees, boards and commissions, both for the Town of Bel Air and Harford County, according to McMahan.

Last year she took issue with the deteriorating fountain and town officials quickly took notice, making improvements to the landmark outside the just days after her request.

"Well, somebody had to notice it before it fell down," Streett said in a May 2011 interview with Patch.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at in Bel Air.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ignatius Church in Forest Hill with interrment to follow.
