Abingdon Fire Contained in 15 Minutes

Abingdon, Bel Air and Joppa fire companies responded to the Wednesday evening fire.

Firefighters controlled an Abingdon blaze in 15 minutes Wednesday evening that caused about $80,000 in damage to a residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials said.

The incident took place in the 100 block of Boxthorn Road in Abingdon shortly after 5 p.m. Flames were initially reported as showing from the second floor, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused structural damage of about $75,000 to the bi-level residence and $5,000 to the property inside,  according to deputy state fire marshals.

Approximately 40 firefighters from Abingdon, Bel Air and Joppa volunteer fire companies responded to the blaze, Gardiner said.

Subdodh and Kanti Dixit own the home, according to fire officials. Two adults were displaced by the fire and family and friends are helping those who were displaced.

A press release from the state fire marshal said members of the Aberdeen Proving Ground professional fire department also responded.
