Another Armed Robbery Attempted at Hickory Hills Condos

On Monday a man used a gun to try to rob a woman but fled without taking any money.

For the second time in less than three weeks, an armed man has tried to rob someone in the Hickory Hills Condominium community.

On Monday about 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Donzen Drive, a man pointed a handgun at a woman and demanded cash, according to a statement from Bel Air Chief of Police Leo Matrangola. Police described the man as black, 6 feet tall, about 160 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

"A witness heard the victim screaming and observed the suspect run into an adjacent condominium building on Seevue Court," according to the statement.

Police surrounded the building and conducted door-to-door interviews with all of the residents, according to the statement. The assailant was not found. The woman was not injured.

One resident, who did not want her name used for fear of reprisal from the robber, said she was surprised that someone would attempt such a crime so early in the night.

"That's not that late," she said. "There's usually a fair amount of cars driving around. I'm going to be more careful when I go out in the evening."

The robbery attempt was "very similar" to one that occurred April 24 at 1 a.m. at the same address when someone threatened a man in the same way, according to Matrangola's statement.

"In each incident the victims refused to surrender cash and the suspect ran off," his statement reads.

Anyone with information about the attempted robberies is asked to call Detective Brad Helm at 410-638-4500 or call 1-866-7LOCKUP. A cash reward of $2,000 has been offered for a tip that leads to an arrest and indictment.
