Bank Bandit Surrenders to FBI

The FBI said the man has targeted a dozen banks, including two in Bel Air, since May.

The serial bank robber, who may have targeted two Bel Air banks, turned himself in on Wednesday.

Andrew Maberry, 19, of O’Fallon, IL, is believed to have robbed 10 banks and attempted to rob two others in five states since May, according to the FBI. He targeted two banks in Bel Air, as well as other banks in Maryland, Illinois, Missouri, West Virginia and Tennessee.

According to a release, Maberry surrendered to the St. Louis FBI Field Office less than 24 hours after a publicity campaign was launched seeking the public’s assistance in his capture.

Maberry was dubbed the "I-55 Bandit" by the FBI in Missouri, because all the banks robbed in the St. Louis area were along Interstate 55.

The FBI said Maberry was arrested and charged with one count of bank robbery in connection with a July 2, robbery at Commerce Bank in Arnold, MO. Maberry was charged via a federal complaint and arraigned Wednesday afternoon. No charges have been filed yet in the Bel Air incidents.

The FBI will continue the investigation to determine if Maberry is linked to other bank robberies.
