UPDATE (Nov. 19, 3:14 p.m.)—Police have charged a Bel Air driver involved in a Friday morning fatal two-vehicle accident in Kingsville.
Brandon Nathaniel Gentry, 24, of the 1400 block of Loch Carron Way in Bel Air, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, according to Baltimore County police spokeswoman Louise Rogers-Feher.
The charges were not related to either alcohol or illegal drugs, according to Rogers-Feher.
According to police, at 6:07 a.m. on Nov. 16, Gentry was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westbound near the intersection of Philadelphia Road and Pfeffers Road in Kingsville. The truck then crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2003 Mazda Protege.
Gentry was seriously injured in the accident. The driver of the Mazda Protege, 44-year-old Patrick Mahlon McKinney, of the 1200 block of Primrose Avenue in Rosedale, was also seriously injured. Both "incapacitated" men were taken by medevac to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to Rogers-Feher.
Police confirmed that both men were in stable condition by Friday at noon.
A passenger in the Mazda Protege, 26-year-old William Strayer Jr. of the unit block of Sweet Gum Court in Essex, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the car. He was taken to Franklin Square Medical Center and pronounced dead, police said.
Nearby resident Heidi Wallace said accidents are frequent along that stretch of Philadelphia Road, mainly because of speeding.
"Kids fly down this road. You're just waiting to hear a crash," she said. "Right after we moved in 10 years ago, a couple of kids smashed an SUV. You couldn't even tell it was an SUV afterward. And we just had a boy on a bicycle hit right in front of our driveway."
Her daughter Allie Wallace suggested that more police patrolling Philadelphia Road may reduce speeding.
"I never see police shoot radar around here. We need it, especially at night," she said.
Are you concerned about safety on Philadelphia Road? Tell us in the comments.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, he took a human life which is irreplaceable. I hope he suffers too.
You are sick and twisted and you don't deserve the brain (or lack thereof) that you have. You are probably Brandon himself or his friend and in that case your opinion and argument is VOID.
So as BRANDON was being released from the hospital, family and friends were attending Brain's FUNERAL. SO how does that make you feel for the ones that are defending BRANDON? Someone such as Brandon is a heartless person and had no care for anyone's safety. It does not matter if Brian had a seat belt on, because it would not of help. When Brandon crossed the double line and driving in the wrong lane, Do you think that would have matter on a head on collision? No!!!! Brandon had a full size truck and hit a 4 door sedan vehicle, No comparsion. So, I am going to be that person who will be in the court room when the judge will ask, "Does anyone have anything to say to the Defendant", I will be that person with a lot to say. Just remember everyone, we all have a past and sometimes the past will always lead to your future. Brandon your past sure did lead yours. RIP Brian........
