BGE Substation in Forest Hill Catches Fire Wednesday

A BGE substation caught fire shortly after an accident nearby.

A Baltimore Gas and Electric substation in Forest Hill caught fire shortly after a hit-and-run accident up the road, but it was unclear Wednesday if one caused the other.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters with Bel Air and Jarrettsville volunteer fire companies were called to the area of East Jarrettsville Road and Industry Lane after a fire broke out in the area, according to a post by Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Crews contained the fire within 15 minutes, Gardiner wrote.

The Harford County Hazmat team was also called to the scene to investigate a possible fluid leak in the unit, but no leak was found, the post states.

Shortly before the fire broke out, Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a hit-and-run accident involving utility poles and wires near Wargos, a bar less than half a mile from the substation, the post states.

It was Wednesday if the fire was related to the accident, Gardiner wrote.
