Body Found Near Atkisson Dam In Joppa

An investigation by Aberdeen Proving Ground officials is under way.

Aberdeen Proving Ground officials are investigating the discovery of a body near Atkisson Dam in Joppa

Around 4:37 p.m. Sunday, personnel from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of the Atkisson Dam where they found a body face down in the reservoir, according to a release from the fire company.

The area is on federal property and the scene was turned over to the Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department, according to the Joppa-Magnolia fire company.

The APG fire department, military officials and military police are working together in the investigation into the death.

The dam is sometimes used by local youth as a slide and videos of some of these excursions are posted to YouTube.

Units from the Abingdon and Kingsville volunteer fire companies and the Harford County Technical Rescue Team also responded to scene.
