Maryland Natural Resources Police said Daniel Lugo may have lost his footing in the water near Carpenters Point.
The body of an 18-year-old Pennyslvania man was pulled Tuesday morning from the Susquehanna Flats, according to the Cecil Whig.

Daniel Isaac Lugo, 18—of Lancaster Pike in Quarryville, PA—was out boating with his family near Carpenters Point Sunday afternoon when he waded into the water near a sand bar, the Rising Sun Herald reported.

Noticing that the boat was beginning to move off the sand bar, Lugo swam toward it then started yelling for help, according to The Patriot-News.

"He either fell or lost his footing or he stepped in a deeper spot or he began to suffer some sort of medical issue," Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candus Thomson told Lancaster Online.

The teen's father jumped into the water to try to help his son and grasped his shirt collar but it slipped away, according to the Rising Sun Herald.

Lugo's father told police his son was not a strong swimmer, The Whig reported.

Officials found Lugo's body at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to The Patriot-News, which reported that Sunday's weather precluded searching and authorities spent eight hours looking in the flats, where the Susquehanna meets the Chesapeake, on Monday. Storms reportedly forced the search to end Monday evening.

Lugo was a recent graduate of Solanco High School, according to Lancaster Online.

He was described by acquaintances as "liked by everyone" and a "sweet, happy guy."

The school was arranging for counseling to be available, The Whig reported.

Lugo's body was reportedly sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

My heart goes out to the family of this young Man !!! I can only imagine the hurt and pain that they must be going thru . I just lost my Dad and Brother in law to Cancer and I would not want to loose a son right in front of my eyes like this young mans father did. I am sure that the family will grieve for quite sometime because we are still hurt from our loved ones passing and we were aware that it was happening so we had sometime to prepare for it this poor kids Dad had to watch it unfold right in front of him in a seconds time. Keep up the faith and try to remember God loves us and he will be there to greet your son in heaven !!! Steven Spiegel

Very sad indeed my condolences to the family and friends of this young man. Just starting out in life as a young adult and had to end so suddenly.
