Fiery Crash Shuts Down Route 24

The crash occurred near Plumtree Road.

A crash shut down MD Route 24 north of Plumtree Road Thursday evening for approximately one hour.

The vehicle collision involved an injury and fire on southbound Route 24, according to Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

The crash occurred when the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu rear-ended an SUV at a traffic light, causing the Malibu to go up in flames, according to The Aegis.

"Avoid the area," Gardiner said at approximately 7:30 p.m.

As of 7:55 p.m., all lanes were closed on Route 24 between Plumtree Road and Wheel Road, according to the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team.

By 8:30 p.m. all lanes were cleared, the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team reported.
