Car Stolen in Bel Air, Burned in Cecil County

A car stolen out of Bel Air was quickly found, but not before being burned and abandoned in Chesapeake City, police say.

A blue 2007 Mustang GT was reported missing Monday afternoon after the owner returned home and discovered it was missing, according Sgt. Jim Lockard with the .

The car was parked in the 800 block of Dora Place in Bel Air on Friday. The car was stolen while the owner was out of town, Lockard said.

Bel Air police reached out to other law enforcement agencies in the region to see if they had recovered any stolen cars.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office was investigating the burning of a car in the 800 block of Biddle Street in Chesapeake City and were able to confirm it was the same car reported missing from Bel Air, Lockard said.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to quell the flames, but not before the blazed caused about $16,000 in damage to the car, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

It was unclear whether the vehicle was involved in any other illegal activity before being burned, Lockard said.

Bel Air police, the Cecil County sheriff's deputies and deputy state fire marshals are investigating.
