Charging Documents Outline Alleged Joppa Cannibalism

Alexander Kinyua, 21, of 535 Terrapin Terrace in Joppatowne, has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

According to charging documents, Kinyua—a Morgan State University student—told detectives he killed Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, cut him up with a knife, then ate part of the dead man's heart and brain before hiding body parts in his basement.

Agyei-Kodie and Kinyua shared the Terrapin Terrace residence along with Kinyua's mother, father, brother and sister, Major Doug Verzi of the said during a news conference Thursday afternoon.

At Kinyua's bail review hearing, Assistant State's Attorney Trenna Manners asked Harford County District Court Judge John Dunnigan Thursday to continue to hold Kinyua without bail due to "the grisly nature" of the crime.

Kinyua allegedly stowed the dead man's head and hands in his basement while dumping the rest of his remains in a dumpster near Town Baptist Church on Trimble Road.

Police have not yet identified a motive for the crime, Verzi said.
