Joppa Duplex Blaze Under Investigation: Fire Marshal

The fire started outside the home.

The fire that broke out Friday night at a Joppa home is under investigation, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, a passerby discovered the blaze at the two-story duplex in the 300 block of Chimney Oak Drive, the fire marshal reported.

Twelve firefighters from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes, according to the report.

The fire started in the exterior of the home, but the cause remained under investigation Saturday, the fire marshal said.

Joppa-Magnolia reported that a lawnmower fire extended into the house.

The blaze caused $5,000 in damage to the structure, according to the fire marshal.
