Fatal Crash Shuts Down Belair Road at Reckord Road

The crash between a box truck and a car was reported at approximately 7 a.m.

A crash between a car and a box truck killed the driver of the car and shut down Belair Road/US Route 1 at Reckord during Monday morning rush hour, officials said. The driver of the truck was injured.

"Belair Road is shut down for an indefinite period," Dave Williams of Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance said at 8:15 a.m.

Multiple people called 911 at approximately 7 a.m. to report a crash that involved a two-door passenger vehicle and a small box truck, according to Williams.

The driver of the car, a man, was pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived, according to Williams. The make/model of the vehicle and the age of the victim were not immediately available. Williams said that extrication would take place after Maryland State Police completed an investigation.

Williams said the driver of the box truck, also a male, was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to a regional trauma center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

There were no passengers in the vehicles, according to Williams.

As of 8:30 a.m., police investigators were on the scene conducting a crash reconstruction, trying to determine what caused the collision, Williams said.

Belair Road was closed between MD Route 152 in Harford County and Sunshine Avenue in Baltimore County, according to Williams, who advised: "If [drivers] try to get in anywhere in between, they'll end up getting detoured."

He suggested US Route 40 or MD Route 7 as alternate routes.
