Serious Crash Closed Route 22 for Four Hours: Police

The incident occurred when one driver failed to heed a stop sign, Bel Air police said.

Two people were taken to area hospitals Saturday afternoon following a crash on MD Route 22 near John Carroll, according to the Bel Air Police Department.

At 2 p.m., police responded to Lee Way at Churchville Road/Route 22 for a crash, according to the report from Bel Air police.

A man driving a 2004 Honda Civic had failed to stop at a stop sign, and he hit a 2011 Toyota van.

The driver of the Civic, a 60-year-old man from Bel Air, was airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said. He had serious injuries, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association.

The driver of the van, a 35-year-old woman from Bel Air, was taken to Upper Chesapeake with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Route 22 was closed in both directions following the crash, and police said it reopened at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
