Jaws of Life Required in Route 24 Crash: Officials

The crash happened in the early Sunday morning, Harford County emergency officials said.

First responders had to use the "jaws of life" in a rescue operation Sunday morning in Abingdon, firefighters reported.

At 1:58 a.m. on Sunday, Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company assisted Abingdon Fire Company in responding to a crash on MD Route 24 at MD Route 924, according to the report from Joppa-Magnolia.

Crews used the jaws of life, a tool that first responders employ to access someone trapped inside a vehicle. It was originally invented more than 40 years ago to get race car drivers out of wreckage and is capable of taking the roof and door off a vehicle.

In the crash on Route 24, two people were rescued and taken to local hospitals, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. Their injuries were reportedly not believed to be life-threatening.
