UPDATE: Sheriff's Deputy Injured During Arrest of Kingsville Man

A Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy was hospitalized Wednesday.

UPDATE (10:37 a.m., March 2)—Three men allegedly broke into an Edgewood home on Wednesday and a Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured in a struggle to arrest them, police announced.

William Joseph Fleming, age 24, of Kingsville, was apprehended at the scene and arrested on a Harford County Circuit Court warrant for drug charges, according to online court records. He has not been charged in connection with the alleged Wednesday break-in, but police say charges are pending.

Around 10:20 p.m., a breaking and entering was reported on the 1800 block of John Drive in Edgewood, according to a release from the .

Deputies arrived and surrounded the home when they heard a scream coming from inside, the release states.

Deputies then forced their way into the home where they found three suspects, including who tried to run.

Two of the suspects were taken into custody while the third jumped through a plate glass window to escape, according to police.    

DFC Tyler Vass, a two-year veteran of the sheriff's office sustained a serious cut to the arm while trying to detain the third suspect, according to police. He was taken to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company ambulance for treatment where he was in serious but stable condition at 1 a.m. Thursday.

Vass was released from the hospital shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday.

Fleming remained in custody at Friday where he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Charges are pending against the Fleming and the other two individuals in connection with the incident, according to the sheriff's office.
