A Joppa man was assaulted and robbed Thursday morning in Edgewood, and police have charged two men with the crime.
Rodney Dion Williams, 33, of the 1800 block of Simons Court in Edgewood, is charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft less than $100, according to court online records. Steven Michael Mack, 34, of the unit block of East Bel Air Avenue in Aberdeen, is facing charges identical to Wiliams, court records show.
The charges stem from a incident that took place in the early morning hours Thursday.
Around 2:30 a.m., a 50-year-old Joppa man told Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies he was visiting a relative on Crimson Tree Way in Edgewood when two men, later identified as Williams and Mack, allegedly walked up to him, punched him multiple times in the face, then stole his cell phone and money, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
As deputies spoke with the victim, deputies on patrol in the area spotted Mack and Williams and, suspecting their involvement, asked the victim if he recognized them, the release states.
The victim told police Mack and Williams were the men who attacked and robbed him, according to the release. Deputies recovered cash and the victim's cell phone from the two men, police say.
Both men were taken to the Harford County Detention Center where Mack was ordered held without bail and Williams ordered to be held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
