Edgewood Resident Almost Struck in Fatal Bel Air Bypass Accident

The witness to the accident was on his way home from work.

Les Turner left work 20 minutes early Saturday. The assistant professional at Geneva Farm Golf Course in Street had just merged onto the Bel Air Bypass on his way home Saturday afternoon when a Ford Ranger coming from the opposite direction swerved in front of him.

“I’m going along and I reach down to change the radio station and I see this truck coming right in front of me,” said Turner, 55, of Edgewood. “There were cars behind me and everything and all I did was swerve over a little bit. I saw my rear-view mirror where he had just plowed into the trees and [people stopped] right away.

The golf pro said 65-year-old Michael Leroy Jackson, a Street resident, was “probably six, seven feet” from “T-boning” him. .

“I was accelerating. I was probably at that point at least 45 miles per hour, if not 50. … He was definitely doing at least the same, if not more,” Turner said. “I didn’t know what was happening. It was a shock. I couldn’t believe a truck was coming in front of me from there.”

On his way to work Monday morning, Turner got a better look at where Jackson crashed.
