Sheriff's Southern Precinct Fire Call was False Alarm

Firefighters said there was "nothing evident" when they arrived at the building on U.S. Route 40.

What was first reported as "black smoke and flames" at the southern precinct in Edgewood turned out to be a false alarm.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Fire and EMS Association, said there was "nothing evident" when units arrived on the scene.

"There is no fire at southern precinct. It’s absolutely fine. It looks like it was some construction," said Monica Worrell, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office. "More than likely it was just large dust being stirred up on the top that gave the impression of smoke coming from the top of the building."
