Feds Help Investigate Cecil County Business Blaze

A fire caused $1.5 million in damage to a sports store in Elkton Friday, officials said.

Deputy state fire marshals said Saturday that investigators remained at the scene of a blaze that overtook a business in Cecil County Friday night, causing more than $1 million in damage.

At 9:32 p.m. on Friday, a passerby called 911 to report a fire at M & M Sports in the 300 block of Pulaski Highway in Elkton, the fire marshal said.

Investigators determined that the fire started inside toward the rear of the the 6,000-square-foot building, according to the fire marshal.

It took 50 firefighters approximately three hours to bring the blaze under control, according to the report from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Crews from Elkton, Rising SunPerryvilleChesapeake City, North East and Havre de Grace responded, the report said.

There was an estimated $1.5 million dollars in damage to the structure and its contents, the fire marshal reported.

Investigators from the fire marshal's office are still working to determine the cause, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to the fire marshal.
