Party to Benefit Riverside Fire Victims

A fundraiser will help a Riverside family get back on its feet.

As a Riverside family recovers from a devastating house fire, the community has offered help in the form of clothing, pizza and on Sunday, a party.

Editor's note: The party has been rescheduled. Patch will post the new date when it is available.

All are welcome to attend the Thirty-One party at the Riverside Community Center, where proceeds will benefit the family of five whose home was destroyed by a Jan. 8 house fire.

At a donation drive earlier this month for the family, there was an "overwhelming turnout," according to organizers with the Riverside Homeowner's Association, who said there were so many donations, the items filled a church office and van.

Anything the family couldn’t use went to the Church at Riverside for the Hope Center, organizers said.

Demonstrations of goodwill were overflowing at the Riverside Community Center, when it accepted donations on Jan. 12.

The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company—one of five departments that battled the blaze on Marigold Court—delivered a truck filled with plastic outdoor toys for the family, and Riverside Pizzeria sent over a complimentary lunch after hearing of the donation drive, organizers said.

Gift cards and plastic totes are still being accepted at the Liberty Tax Office, where donors have been rewarded with the offer to have their taxes done for free.

The fundraiser that had been scheduled for Jan. 26 will help the family pay for temporary housing.

The benefit party planned for Sunday at the Riverside Community Center was canceled and will be rescheduled.
